Havaianas Spring Summer ‘13 Preview

Everyone knows about Havaianas. It’s the Brazilian brand that’s a league ahead in terms of flip flop designs. In Singapore, you would recognize a Havaianas store from far because it’s the one that has vast colourful flip flops perfectly lined up from floor to ceiling. Whenever one enters one, it’s like entering a different dimension where flip flops are the mode of communication, a preferred style preference. Yep, that’s the one. You know it.

Anyway, long story short, Havaianas is currently rolling out a whole slew of flip flops fit for Spring Summer 2013, beginning from December to May. Be prepared to see swarovski, tropics, pac-man, graffiti, animal prints, Disney (for kids) and even a royal (Thai royal that is) print. Personal favourites are of course the pac-man and the animal prints and considering I hardly (seriously, like 1 in a billion times) wear flip flops, the fact I am excited over this collection and by what Havaianas has done is stunning

I still wouldn’t suggest wearing these flip flops to anywhere else except the beach. It’s an unspoken fashion philosophy, except now it’s shouted from across the road. Although in this case, I can see how they might become a much more frequently used item.

More pictures of the collection are up on my Facebook page, along with release dates! On a side note, I played a couple of games at the preview and won vouchers, which I am so generously going to give away in January as a New Year’s treat! So you know what you have to do, ahem, in terms of, ahem, liking the page, ahem. Thank you.

Before leaving the preview, one also has to sit and ponder on how Havaianas is rapidly taking over everyone’s feet…

Maison Martin Margiela with H&M Preview

Maison Martin Margiela, from duvet coats to flat jackets to upside down bags, is there anything you can’t deconstruct? The collaboration with H&M is basically all about MMM’s re-editions and each piece that you purchase will come with a tag which tells you which season that piece is from.

Just out of curiosity, is anyone gonna get the Duvet coat? Anyone?

Menswear:

Quite honestly, for the ladies, there are two (maybe three) worthy accessories to get and that is the lock/ key-ring necklace, the plexi heeled shoes and of course the candy clutches. You would have noticed that the collection isn’t entirely wearable for Singapore (fur coat, thick leather jackets, duvet coat???) but they would probably make for a good collection piece or for when you head to the cold Europe. However, the menswear pieces are far more delectable, so guys I think this collaboration was made for you (a huge hint that you absolutely must queue this time).

Oh and girls, maybe you could also get the mirrored leggings just to irritate passer-bys by reflecting light off the leggings on them. Tsk tsk what evil thoughts I have.

SAVE THE DATE: 15 November 8am.
Place your virtual dibs now. Mine’s on the Candy Clutch!

Club Monaco Winter 2012 Preview

DSC09712

Club Monaco’s Press Preview was about 2 weeks ago but I got busy with the whole adding and dropping of modules in University as soon as the semester started so posting might be a little slow for now.

Back to the point, the preview for Club Monaco’s Winter collection was a complete visual delight. Keeping a keen eye for detail was clearly the plan for the collection is loaded with intricate embroidery and perfectly placed embellishments. The marriage of hard and soft silhouettes also brings out the subtle sensibilities of Scottish luxury and modernist art - my favourite element throughout the collection!

There is a lot going on for the collars, cuffs and shoulders and I don’t think the attention to detail on those areas of clothing will disappear any time soon. If anything, designers are going to get a whole lot more creative with collars and cuffs. If you’re intrigued by the collection, it will be available in stores in batches from October onwards, so look out for it and feel free to share your thoughts on the collection!

Like it or hate it, whatever rocks your boat, share it!

NAKED | ROOM: The Sahara Mystique

DSC05317

Naked Room. I don’t know about you but when I heard the label, ‘Naked Room’, I thought it was a sleepwear or lingerie label (admit it, it would have been a pretty apt name for such a label). Instead, Naked Room is a label that aims to arrive at a juxtaposition of dressy and casual apparels. In Naked Room terms, they basically specialize in ‘dressy casuals’.

Claiming to have too many ideas, the designer duo, Jada and Lin, launched The Sahara Mystique as a mini collection inspired by the mysterious aura that emanates from the Sahara Desert.

DSC05320

The use of a warm colour palette complemented with navy blue hues may remind you of a classic Arabian night with wind blowing through the desert. Feathers and lace were another focal point in the collection which ideally brings forth the delicate nature of being in a desert, where the shape of sand dunes are never quite the same.

I believe many would be eyeballing this delectable piece of outerwear that has feathers and beads painfully hand sewn onto it. A quick note, this is the only (read, only) piece in the collection. No duplicates.

The designers themselves, Jada and Lin in pieces from The Sahara Mystique! Prices of the collection will range from SGD$29 - $229, the most expensive being the above feather-lace outerwear!

The collection will only be available at PARCO next NEXT!

H&M in Singapore (soon!)

Attended the H&M Preview together with everyone else from the regional media and upon entering, everyone screamed and ran like little girls around the store. Well not literally, but we really wanted to!

H&M will debut with their A/W 11 collection in early/mid September at Orchard Building. It’s going to be huge (about 30,000 sq feet), 3 levels filled with goodness for women, men and for the little ones. I know some of you will spend heaps at Blueprint Emporium, but remember to save some for H&M (you’ll thank me later). Anyway, here’s what I’m saving for.

This beautiful and extremely flattering Victorian looking top. (That’s Nasit peeking through! He’s the AFX Top Blogger from Thailand.)

And this minty green, metallic netted top/sweater (yes, I need that many adjectives). It’s also in that perfect shade of green that ideally complements most skin tones. Oh, by the way, the striped top I was wearing that day, was also from H&M (in Germany).

Soon, Singaporeans won’t have to travel out of the country just to get their H&M fix, it’ll just be a bus ride or two away!

Men’s Fashion Week Press Conference & Preview

The best way to start a post on Men’s Fashion Week (MFW) is with the voice of MFW, Utt. Indeedy, he’s the only speaker Lenne took a photo of as well. Awesome hair huh?

Scheduled to occur in April, MFW is set to be the first of its kind in Asia with some of the most well known brands ready to show their menswear collection here.

The event was held at ION Sky on the 55th floor! (I didn’t even know ION had a 55th floor!) The view was spectacular from there and the entire event space was transformed to look exactly like the backstage of a fashion show complete with wardrobe look and makeup stations.

Male models were walking around chatting while having a sip of champagne. (I arrived late so didn’t get to mingle but I imagine Venetia, Lenna and Yusrina had a nice time men watching)

The show will showcase the autumn/winter 2011 collection of up to 15 brands including BOSS Black, Canali, Etro and Versace. That’s not all, 75% of the brands will have their desginer/creative director flown down for the show.

Venue has not been confirmed but organisers are eyeing the glorious Marina Bay Sands and 30% of the tickets will be made available for the public with prices starting from $40. This event is set to be both exclusive and inclusive.

And! Supermodel Philip Huang is set to be the face of MFW 2011. (Picture taken during the HUGO Show in Berlin)

I can’t wait to see what organisers have planned for us as there is also going to be a special segment to showcase local talent!

Stay tuned people!
